First-year head coach Tony Bonalerto has taken the helm of Hanover Central’s football team, marking his first season leading the Wildcats.
According to Bonalerto, he spent the past four seasons as the team’s quarterbacks coach. Now, he takes over a program that has competed in a championship game every year during the current seniors’ high school careers. “I’ve fallen in love with the place since I arrived,” Bonalerto said. “My sons both graduated from Hanover, and I just found it’s a great place to be. The kids work hard, the community supports us, and the school administration really loves football.”
Bonalerto emphasized that his seniors understand what it takes to compete at a high level. “These boys have been involved in a title game every year,” he said. “That’s something we just want to continue. We know the road is tough in the NCC (Northwest Crossroads Conference), and we know it’s tough in the state tournament, but that’s what we sign up to do.”
Now in their third season since moving up from the Greater South Shore Conference (GSSC), the Wildcats expect to maintain their high standards. “Every year is exciting,” Bonalerto said. “The expectations are high, but that’s what Hanover football is all about.”
