Hanover Central head coach Tony Bonalerto has outlined his strategic focus for the 2024 season, emphasizing the importance of running the football with authority.
“Last year, I thought we needed to run the ball better and control the game when we had a lead,” Bonalerto said. “I’d like us to be more physical, run the ball successfully, and not give the other team chances late. When you have the lead, you want to close the door.”
According to Bonalerto, reflection and adjustments are integral to his coaching staff’s daily routine. “Every single day, we’re making some sort of correction or reflection on what we think is best,” he said. “It’s not just once a week. It’s constant.”
Seniors such as linebacker Lincoln Zerby and outside linebacker Luke Kepler are prepared to set an example for their teammates. Zerby expressed readiness to guide younger players and aim for a deep playoff run. “I’m ready to guide the young guys and drive the team deep into the playoffs,” Zerby said. “We’re a brotherhood here.”
Kepler emphasized the importance of leaving a lasting impact on future players. “We’ve got to show the younger guys how it’s done,” he said. “We want the program to keep progressing even after we leave.”
