Hanover Central softball held off a late push to defeat Andrean 4-3 in a conference matchup, securing a narrow victory with steady offense and composed pitching.
The game took place April 13 at Andrean High School, where the Wildcats responded to an early deficit and gradually built their lead across the middle innings.
After trailing 2-0 in the first, Hanover Central answered with runs in the second, third and fourth innings to take control of the game. The Wildcats continued to apply pressure throughout the lineup and added an insurance run in the sixth inning, which ultimately proved to be the difference. Nora Edgerton led the offense with a 2-for-4 performance, recording an RBI and scoring a run. Marisa Millsap and B. Oostman each collected two hits, while Kaylee Blocker drove in a run and added a stolen base. Sienna Stilley also contributed an RBI as Hanover Central totaled nine hits in the win.
In the circle, Jillian DeYoung delivered a complete-game effort, allowing three runs on eight hits while striking out seven and walking three. She settled in after the opening inning and limited Andrean’s chances the rest of the way.
Hanover Central also played clean defense, committing just one error and turning a double play to help secure the conference victory.
