Hanover Central may have fallen 35-20 to Lowell on Friday, but the Wildcats showed plenty of grit and playmaking that bodes well as the season continues.
Running back Dominic Giglio led the charge for the Wildcats, racking up 92 rushing yards and punching in a touchdown. Wideout Jacob Ferko also delivered a strong performance, hauling in 91 yards through the air and scoring once to keep HC in striking distance.
The defense refused to back down against a physical Red Devils offense. Hanover picked off two passes, with Ferko and Lukas Valiska each coming up with interceptions to stall Lowell drives and give the Wildcats extra chances.
While the final score tilted toward Lowell, the Wildcats never stopped competing, matching intensity and showing flashes of the balanced attack that powered them in last week’s win over Highland.
Hanover Central (1-3) now turns its focus to a key matchup against Kankakee Valley at 7 p.m. Friday.
