Laney Poppa’s seventh-inning grand slam lifted the Griffith Panthers to a 7-5 come-from-behind victory over the Hanover Central Wildcats on Thursday at Griffith.
The game took place on Thursday, April 23, at Griffith.
Brooklyn Oostman singled in the bottom of the fourth to put the Wildcats on the board. Griffith grabbed a 3-1 lead in the top of the fifth on a run-scoring groundout by Brylie Bridges and a two-run single from Natalie Vianello. Hanover Central surged ahead 5-3 in the sixth when Oostman singled home a run and Kaylee Blocker blasted a three-run homer to center field.
Poppa’s grand slam in the seventh, with the Panthers trailing 5-3, proved decisive. Cannryn Young earned the complete-game win for Griffith, scattering seven hits and five runs (three earned) over seven innings while striking out five and walking three. Claire Edgerton took the loss for the Wildcats after five innings, allowing three runs on seven hits with four strikeouts.
Kaylee Blocker drove in three runs with her homer to lead Hanover Central. Brooklyn Oostman paced the Wildcats with two hits in four at-bats. The hosts played error-free defense. Griffith collected 10 hits, led by Jaida Wheatley and Cannryn Young with three apiece.
