Hanover Central junior guard Langdon Oldenburg is stepping into the new basketball season prepared to assume a significantly larger role for a Wildcats team that is reshaping its identity following last year’s sectional championship run.
Oldenburg is one of the most experienced players returning to a roster that has lost much of its scoring, size, and veteran leadership due to graduation. Having spent the past two seasons practicing against a senior-heavy lineup, he gained valuable experience through physical matchups, defensive assignments, and high-level varsity repetitions that honed his poise. These experiences now translate into responsibility as the Wildcats look to him for stability, scoring support, and leadership within a young rotation.
According to head coach Chandler Spring, this season marks a transition period as he introduces a new structure and foundation for the program while retaining familiar voices on staff. For Oldenburg, the focus has been on strengthening confidence, communicating effectively on defense, and helping set the competitive standard for teammates who are stepping into greater roles for the first time. His maturity and consistency will play a major part in how quickly the Wildcats find their rhythm.
Oldenburg sees the conference landscape as an opportunity rather than a hurdle. He believes Hanover Central’s chemistry and willingness to adapt can push the team beyond outside expectations. With a blend of returning contributors and new faces, the Wildcats plan to approach the season with toughness, cohesion, and a renewed competitive edge.
The Hanover Central boys basketball team will host North Newton on Monday, Dec. 9 at 7 p.m., as they aim to build early momentum and continue developing their revamped lineup.
