Hanover Central paired a steady offense with a dominant pitching performance Saturday, holding off Hobart 5-3 in a varsity softball win.
The game took place on May 16 at Hobart High School.
The Wildcats scored in each of the first five innings to build their lead. Jillian DeYoung helped Hanover Central get started in the first when she hit into a double play that still brought home a run. Kaylee Blocker added to the advantage in the second with a solo home run to center field, then singled in another run in the third to make it 3-0. Hobart answered with three runs in the fourth to tie the game, but Hanover Central responded with single runs in the fourth and fifth to regain control.
Blocker led the Wildcats’ 15-hit attack, going 3-for-4 with a home run and two singles. Marisa Millsap also had three hits, while Sienna Stilley, Kaden Poppe, Brooklyn Oostman, and Dallas Bowen each finished with multiple hits. DeYoung went the distance on the mound, striking out 12 while allowing just one hit and three runs over seven innings.
Up next, the Wildcats will travel to meet Washington Township on Tuesday, May 19.
