Former assistant Nick San Pagnero takes over as Hanover Central’s head baseball coach, sharing his excitement for his first season leading the program.
San Pagnero also noted the challenge of shifting from being the approachable assistant to the one setting the tone for the team’s culture. He explained that the players have shared personal opinions with him and have always been open to talking to him about things. From that perspective, he emphasized the importance of maintaining strong relationships with the players while establishing expectations for the program’s future.
“I can’t just flip a switch overnight to be completely different,” San Pagnero said. “So kind of keeping the respect of the one-on-one relationship I have with the guys, as well as now turning things over to what I’d like to see, kind of the culture turn into with the program.”
He stressed blending new talent with veterans to build a balanced lineup.
“We keep them around us on and off the field, getting going with the groove of how we do things,” San Pagnero stated.
As he begins his debut season, San Pagnero focuses on growth, culture, and on balancing the pursuit of regular-season wins with preparation for postseason competition.
