Hanover Central High School’s football team is preparing for the upcoming season with optimism, despite losing some of its top offensive players from 2023. Head coach Tony Bonalerto expressed confidence in the team’s ability to fill these gaps with returning and emerging talent.
“We lost a lot of offensive production, but we’ve got guys coming back who are ready,” said Bonalerto. He highlighted Anthony Layman as a key player, noting that Layman is a two-year starter and will be entering his junior year as the leading returning receiver.
According to Bonalerto, the Wildcats will also rely on their running backs, Dom Giglio and Isaiah Bykema. “I think as the season progresses, people will see these guys can play,” he said.
At the quarterback position, Hanover has multiple options. “Jeff Resney has stepped up and been a dual threat,” Bonalerto remarked. “He’s shown leadership, and Wyatt Toole has also progressed. Both have worked hard, and we’re excited to see them in games.”
Bonalerto conveyed that both he and his coaching staff are eager to translate practice improvements into game-day success. “I think I speak for all the coaches — we’re ready to go,” he said. “We’re excited to let things play out on the field.”
